  • Selfheal (Prunella vulgaris var. lanceolata): A native which  is over 2" tall & 1" wide.  The small varieties are generally not native. width:596;;height:604

  • Beach walks are great opportunities for birdwatching. We spotted flocks of Sanderlings racing for meals after each wave, while the Heermann's Gulls watched us cautiously. width:640;;height:480
  • Blue Blossom Ceanothus (Ceanothus thyrsiflorus): We think this is probably a 2nd  bloom on this native bush. width:472;;height:604
  • This is the beach section paralleling the Coast Trail (which is not too interesting here unless you're into flat treeless grasslands). width:454;;height:604
  • Gopher Plant (Euphorbia lathyris): Originally from the Mediterranean, this plant is believed by some to repel moles & gophers. width:459;;height:604
  • Rein Orchid (Piperia elegans): We found about 4 of these natives along the Laguna Trail. width:406;;height:604

  • Coastal Tidytips (Layia platyglossa): These natives were abundant on the Coast Trail. width:640;;height:556
