MT. DIABLO STATE PARK

Park Description:
It is said that
Mt. Diablo's view is second only to
Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa
for the amount of viewable land. The mountain was first written about with
the
Fages-Crespi expedition
in 1772 and has been famous in California history ever since. The park
itself has had a tumultuous history beginning with the first 630 acres in 1921 to it's present 20,000.
There are also an additional 70,000 acres under protection around the base.
Brief Directions: The main entries are North
Gate from Walnut Creek, South Gate from Danville and Mitchell Canyon Rd.
from Clayton.
