Sand Pigmy Weed (Crassula connata): Each succulent leaf is only about 1/ 64 inch across on this tiny mat like native plant.

Red Sage (Salvia microphylla): This non native bush about 4 feet tall had been planted.

You soon get to an old flowering fruit tree confirming you're on the trail.

Narcissus (Narcissus sp.): This non native bulb was definitely planted–maybe by a homesteader.

Much of the 2.5 mile trail overlooks Napa and the valley below.

Stanford Manzanita (Arctostaphylos stanfordiana ssp. stanfordiana): This large native Manzanita bush is a relatively common species.

Indian Warrior (Pedicularis densiflora): This native, an Indian Paintbrush relative, liked the shady areas.

An old kiln is just off of the main trail.

Hoary Manzanita (Arctostaphylos canescens ssp. canescens): These large native bushes were quite common to this area. They have fuzzy grayish leaves.

Wild Cucumber (Marah fabaceus): Emerging flower buds in this perennial native vine.

Eastwood Manzanita (Arctostaphylos glandulosa ssp. glandulosa): This particular Manzanita is rare in Napa County. We saw only one bush.

Most of the trail winds through interesting weathered volcanic rock.

Shepherd’s Needle (Scandix pectin-veneris): In a short while this non native will produce it’s characteristic needle looking seeds.

Spring Draba (Draba verna): Uncommon non native annual from Europe. Flower was about 3/16" across.

Holly Leaf Ceanothus (Ceanothus purpureus); Also commonly called Napa Ceanothus.

Chamise and Manzanita mark much of the landscape. Both are fire survivors, which has run through here recently.
